McCarthy Campaigning in Houston (1968)

This news segment for Houston’s KPRC-TV captures Senator Eugene McCarthy of Minnesota campaigning in Houston on August 9, 1968. McCarthy was one of several candidates vying for the Democratic nomination for president during the 1968 election. During his one-day visit to Houston, he held a news conference, attended a fundraising reception, and held a campaign rally in Hermann Park. Senator Ralph Yarborough of Texas introduces McCarthy at the press conference and enthusiastically endorses him for president. Some portions are silent and would have been voiced over by the anchorperson during a live broadcast.
