In these outtakes from a 1970s news report broadcast on San Antonio’s KMOL-TV (now WOAI-TV), a rancher explains how Texas land baron Samuel Maverick’s name became associated with independent thinkers and unbranded cattle. The camera operator plays with composition, arranging the rancher among a herd of cattle in different ways. The cows do not always cooperate.
