Description: Introduces the fundamental concepts of map reading through the story of a boy who attempts to draw a map of his paper route for a friend. His map isn't satisfactory, so they call on Mr. Donaldson, a cartographer. At his suggestion, the two boys build a scale model of the neighborhood on a sand table. While creating their map the boys learn the principles of scale, symbols, physical and political maps, various uses of color, and how to use a map index.
