it's been a natural progression for me to use parents in the school i come from social work where i worked with the homes and realized the importance of the home to a child then i worked in and had training in nursery schools where of course parents are used to quite an extent we've been in this school five years and have gradually used parents more and more originally they came in and helped with some of the jobs we have to do but now they use the manual which we have here and are an integral part of the program i feel that they do teach they teach under my direction they teach the things which um i feel it's important for the children to learn but without the parents i don't think that our program could progress as well as it is now can we read this starting up here the family goes for a ride who wants to i hear we should have sufficient teaching staff i don't think that parents should be expected to provide a chief education i think what they can do is help to help provide an excellent education we may we should have a good one but then i think parents can come in and help provide an excellent one we can't okay now colleen we're going to do some number work okay i think you're working on subtraction aren't you takeaways you've been doing takeaways okay now can you do seven take away three for me and how many does that leave you had seven and you took three away now how many have you got left one two three four here down is down here butterfly can you read this for me colleen here is the butterfly my name is timmy wilms we went to the post express to get our stories published about the maple slap stories and this is what we used to tap the tree we pounded it in and we hooked one of these pails on this hook and the sap dripped out into them and then we took it in and cooked it and had pancakes with it and was it good tim yep yeah good and then what did you do after you had it all collected did you do some work on it did you make some stories yeah would you like to show us one of the stories this is the one you did first isn't it someone did this i do cheryl did this one and then you each took your story and what did you do get them published and you typed them all up did you type them yourself yeah that was very good and then we went down to the post express in beansville and have them published yeah uh this is the newspaper that we got our storage published and these are the stories down here and um some other people went to the um food express and they got all the stories published that we made do you like having your mother come to help at the school yeah what do you like to do when we come what what help is it well they help us like lead to them and sometimes the teachers don't ask what kind of trip have you been on um we went to nose salsa and then we went down to the creek and we saw some of the crate for showing someone about that big and another little one got away and we tried to get the big one but it really got away because it could swim fast and we went to mrs thompson's house would you people sat great would you be able to read as often if the mothers didn't come to the school no why wouldn't you be able to because because the teachers would be busy all the time and they wouldn't have enough time for some people to read to i think the parents feel that they're an integral part of the program too and help the child in his mindset towards learning once the parent comes and passes muster on us then i think the child relaxes and feels we're all right and it's ready to go full steam ahead for the whole day
