Description: "A symphony in sight and sound, which makes no use of narration, a connected story. It directs the camera and sound recording equipment to the activities of Britain at war. The result is a series of impressions, varying in intensity and in length, working toward a clear emotional understanding of the men, women and children waging this war. Marsh grasses sway ominously as a bomber drones overhead; children play in a school playground as tanks roar through the village streets; workers are entertained by professional artists during their noon hour; horses trot through the streets of the city at dawn; people go to work. We see and hear radio commentators, a noon concert where Myra Hess plays the piano, at an art gallery attended by men in uniform, shop girls, war workers, Queen Elizabeth. There is no obvious pattern to the sequence of scenes; just sights and sounds. A highly moving film, but one which varies in effect upon the audience; certainly the film should be seen more than once. It is especially recommended for community programs and for classes in music and art." School management
