Complete Record: William M. Cruickshank, Director of the Institute for the Study of Mental Retardation and Related Disabilities at the University of Michigan, discussed this series of films, which is designed to help teachers as they face the problem of integrating handicapped children into normal educational settings. Each film illustrates one of more handicapping conditions in terms of such social concepts as coping, acceptance, self-help, responsibility, and getting along with others. Series includes three groupings: interpersonal relationships; achievements, and accomplishments; and attitudes and feelings. Three films from the series are shown on this introductory reel. The films promote an understanding and acceptance of differences by demonstrating that all children have strengths and weaknesses. Familiar situations and surroundings help young viewers become comfortable with children who have handicaps.
