Complete Record: Life in a New England seaport town in the 1870s is re-created through the activities of a family the day before the father, captain of a whale ship, and his 14-year-old son, Andrew, are due to ship out on a whale hunt that will keep them away from home for two to five years. Ten-year-old Joshua dreams of the day when he, too, can go to sea. His imagination, triggered by a model ship, leads into a sequence exploring the maritime history of the 19th century as reflected in model ships and paintings.
