Description: In this 1968 news segment for Houston’s KPRC-TV, President Lyndon B. Johnson addresses NASA employees and their families during an official visit to the Manned Spacecraft Center. Johnson flew from Washington, DC, to Houston on March 1. The President’s dog, Yuki, accompanied him. Amid budget cuts to the space program, Johnson hoped to spur NASA officials toward their goal of landing astronauts on the Moon by the end of 1969. He also observed astronauts conduct training exercises. Following his pep talk at the Manned Spacecraft Center, Johnson visited the Schlesinger Old Folks Home to promote the benefits of new Social Security laws. The President then flew on to Beaumont, where he was a guest at an appreciation dinner for Congressman Jack Brooks.
