Summary: Mayor Tom Bradley gives a press conference on the extension of the Dial-a-Ride program. The program, which served senior citizens in various areas of Los Angeles, was terminated in June due to lack of funding. Mayor Bradley talks about his personal appeal to the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission to provide funding for what he felt to be an essential transportation system. Bradley also responds to questions. Clip includes silent footage of reporters, cameras and the press conference, as well as ambient sound footage of Los Angeles City Hall and neighboring buildings.

[No audio] [Mayor Tom Bradley] We believe that well over a hundred thousand people will be served, by this system during the course of, the coming year. And I think it is a, a matter of great joy, ah, by those who live in these various areas, and incidentally let me, ah, mention the areas that are covered. The Beverly Fairfax area. The Hollywood Wilshire area. Westlake, West Adams, and the Pacoima areas. [Unintelligible] [Camera noise] [Bradley] theme. ah, the Dial-A- Ride program serving senior citizens in various sections of Los Angeles, was terminated in June because of, ah, lack of funding. The funding source from Washington was terminated. I made a personal appeal to the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission, to provide funding for what I thought was a very essential, and effective transportation system. And I'm pleased today to announce that, the Transportation Commission has approved, three hundred thousand dollars, to permit this program to continue for one year. So, starting today, the people in these various, communities in Los Angeles, will be able to call for their Dial-A-Ride service, ah, preferably twenty four hours in advance. And receive, either a van or, another vehicle, that will arrive at their door, and take them to their destination whether it be to the doctor or, for shopping or for whatever essential purpose. [Unknown speaker] planning that service and perhaps continuing it as it is beyond July 1980. [Bradley] I'm happy to get, ah, one year extension of the service. And we'll deal with whether it's going to be extended beyond that point when that year runs out. Ah, I do not foresee any expansion of the service to, ah, any other sections. [Reporter] Do you see perhaps an increase in the cost? [?] fifteen cents. [No audio] [Street noise, traffic] [Street noise, traffic, bells tolling]
