Summary: An unidentified police lieutenant gives an account of the events in Pershing Square in which a man comes up behind a police officer, grabs his gun out of the holster and is shot and killed by a second officer. At one point a reporter asks about a witness who was taken away in handcuffs, but the lieutenant claims not to know anything about that. Footage includes shots of officers, investigators, onlookers and members of the media.

I'm asking you if it's police procedure to take a witness to a shooting away in handcuffs. >> I don't know anything about uh the suspect or the witness or anything else about it. So I can't obviously I can't comment on I don't know what you're asking. >> I'm asking about procedure. Lieutenant >> procedures vary depending upon the circumstances. What the circumstances were here I don't know >> when would it be appropriate to take a witness away in handcuffs >> when you feel perhaps that your the safety of the officer is in jeopardy. one man unit. Maybe that's the reason there. Again, I have to speculate. I >> Are you a witness to this shooting? One officer, two beat officers working the park area here. Uh, one was over here by the benches talking to the man and uh, at which time the suspect came up behind the officer, pulled the gun out of his holster and told the officer, "Come with me." Officer put his hands up and said, "Sure, where do you want to go?" he'll pick up my bed roll. So the officer went over, picked up the picked up the bed roll and called to his partner saying, "Hey, Mac." And the officer number two turned around, saw what was happening, drew his weapon, at which time the first officer dropped to the ground. Second officer fired several rounds, killing the suspect. We have no identification on the suspect at this time. >> Suspect never got off any shots with the officer's gun. >> Neither officer was injured. >> No, that's right. Everyone was injured. Okay. Channel 510 tonight.
