The KTLA newsfilm collection at UCLA consists of cut and unedited stories, outtakes and fill footage, originally shot on 16mm reversal film stock with magnetic soundtrack. Some footage, particularly material not used for broadcast, may be without sound.
Title: "Picket in response to the arrest of Angela Davis." Date: December 18, 1970.
Summary: In 1970, Jonathan Jackson tried to free his brother George Jackson, a Black Panther and prison inmate, by smuggling guns into the Marin County courthouse during the trial of another Black Panther, arming the convicts and taking the judge, the deputy district attorney, and three jurors hostage. The judge was killed during their escape. Angela Davis, who had connections to the Jackson brothers and was the registered owner of the guns used in the incident, was found hiding in New York City and charged with murder, kidnapping and conspiracy. Although she was originally detained in New York, she was later extradited to California. This footage features people picketing to protest the arrest of Angela Davis by carrying signs and chanting. There is also a brief interview with an unidentified man possibly talking about her extradition, and how she can only be extradited if the court shows probable cause, which he does not believe it can do. It is possible that this is footage from New York before Davis was extradited to California.

[Silence]. [Street noise]. [Protestor's chanting] "Free Angela, [unintelligible] back." [Street noise]. [Unidentified Reporter] Is it not true that she will be, if she is... eventually...uh...extradited she'll be extradited to a jurisdiction that is within and under the Constitutional protection? [Unidentified Lawyer] Well, of course, California is under... pledged to the Constitution but New York is too. And it's a matter of Constitutional protection that a person can't be extradited unless there's probable cause to believe that person is guilty of crime. [Unidentified Reporter] You think by having these grand jury minutes you can show probable cause? Or that...that you won't...the court cannot show probable cause? [Unidentified Lawyer] I believe that if I have the grand jury minutes I'll show that this indictment... was... was turned in bad faith. That there isn't enough evidence to hold her. That's right.
