The KTLA newsfilm collection at UCLA consists of cut and unedited stories, outtakes and fill footage, originally shot on 16mm reversal film stock with magnetic soundtrack. Some footage, particularly material not used for broadcast, may be without sound.

Summary: A reporter interviews comedian Pat Paulsen about the first Festival of Friends benefit concert. The benefit was suggested by the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation to raise money for educational toys and other items for underprivileged children in the Los Angeles area. Footage includes a performance by John Hartford on an outdoor stage and people watching the band. There is a close-up of Jesse Unruh, California State Assembly Speaker (1961-1969) and California State Treasurer (1975-1987).

[Live music playing]. [Crowd clapping]. [Pat Paulsen] Wow, this is a pretty important thing. It's a... we call it "The Festival of Friends". It's to... get toys...educational toys and other things for underprivileged children in the L.A. area. The idea was suggested to us by the Robert Kennedy Foundation and uh.. they approached us on it and Ken Craig [?] went ahead and got all our people together, myself and Mason Williams and John Hartford, Jennifer, John Stewart and First Edition, who are going to be coming up next [Reporter] Yeah. [Paulsen] John Hartford's up there now. And... kind of hope to make it a yearly thing, get it goin'. Our turnout was a little... slow today but I think it's possibly due to rain or everybody down at Laguna. [Reporter laughing]. [Paulsen] But...uh...we hope it'll work out. [Silence]. [John Hartford singing "Sunshine Lady You Really Know How To Slow A Man Down"]. [Reporter] Pat, how did you ever get time off from cleaning your engine to get over here? [Paulsen] I like to send... anything they have...toys, educational toys particularly...can send them to 451 North Canon Drive in Beverly Hills care of the Robert Kennedy Foundation and we'll distribute them over there. We think it's a good thing...been a good time today, considering. [Reporter] I see our mutual friend Jess Unruh sitting over here with his new mustache. [Paulsen] Yeah, we got together a little while ago and talked about two losers getting together. [Reporter laughs]. [Paulsen] I would say... [Reporter] I would say you're a couple of winners. [Paulsen] Well, I thought so but sometimes you back the wrong one. [Reporter and Paulsen laugh]. [Silence].
