The KTLA newsfilm collection at UCLA consists of cut and unedited stories, outtakes and fill footage, originally shot on 16mm reversal film stock with magnetic soundtrack. Some footage, particularly material not used for broadcast, may be without sound.

Summary: In a statement regarding the 1980 Census, Mayor Tom Bradley emphasizes he wants everyone in Los Angeles to be counted. The mayor hopes people will fill out and mail back their forms today to save the millions it will cost to send people out to get the data. April 1, 1980 has been proclaimed Census Day in Los Angeles, and Bradley presents a commemorative certificate to Michael of the Census Bureau while congratulating him for the great work he has done on such a massive undertaking. Michael speaks briefly thanking the city, Mayor Bradley and his staff for their support in the process. Footage includes Mayor Bradley, Michael and another man walking down the sidewalk to the mailbox where they drop envelopes with their completed census forms to be mailed.

[Street noise] [Mayor Tom Bradley] Okay. [Bradley] We hope that people will complete those forms and mail them today. [Bradley] Ah. That can avoid the expenditure of millions of dollars by having to send the enumerators around to get the answers from them. [Bradley] We want everybody to be counted. It means a great deal to the City of Los Angeles, because, ah, [Bradley] almost every program, from the federal government, which sends money to the cities, is in one way or another, [Bradley] affected by the census count, by the population. And we don't want to be under counted. [Camera crew speaking in background] [Bradley] Michael, this census day promises to be the biggest and hopefully the best in the history of the country. [Bradley] And, the undertaking has been absolutely incredible. You and the members of the Census Bureau, [Bradley] I think are to be congratulated for the great work you've done. [Bradley] The declaration of this day, April 1st, 1980, as census day in Los Angeles, that we can encourage people, [Bradley] to cooperate further with your efforts and with the Census Bureau. I wish you the best. [Michael] Thank you, Mr.Mayor we want to express our deep appreciation to the city and your staff for their fine support, ah. [Michael] And you personally, for coming forward and ah, spreading the message and urging people to be included, ah. [Michael] And the importance of the staff and, ah, your help in securing the excellent cooperation, [Michael] from the media here in the Greater Los Angeles area.
