Summary: The fourth annual Los Angeles County Peace Officers Memorial ceremony, held outdoors at the Sheriff’s Academy, honored the 271 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty since 1900. In this clip, Sheriff Peter Pritchess speaks about the courage and devotion to duty shown by the officers being honored. Footage includes Pritchess, Rabbi Jacob Pressman and Cardinal Timothy Manning walking behind a wreath that is placed in front of the memorial wall, and shots of officers from different organizations participating in the ceremony. Some footage lacks sound.

That's down there. both day and night. [Music] >> 271 law enforcement officers have sacrificed their lives in Los Angeles County since the turn of the century. We owe them a debt that can never be repaid. Their deeds speak for themselves far better than anything I can say. Far better than anything we can do here by our presence. [Music] [Music] Wow. [Music] [Music] La. [Music] people their own culture but also the innate weaknesses. Therefore, I would ask you to rise for just a moment as we pray. Under Sheriff Craig, supervising inspector zone five of California Highway Patrol. Jim Bale, chief of police of Whittier, on this very spot on a spring day one year ago today and read the names of Dana E. Paladini policemen. They were highway patrolmen. But they all shared a common purpose. Each had courage and dedication and a profound devotion to duty. Their solemn duty to protect and to serve their fellow man. Their sacrifice is a source of strength. the strength that we vitally need today to face the ever growing turmoil in this nation and in this world. In order that future generations may live in peace, we must continue their mission and let the deeds of these brave men serve as the cornerstone of our spirit. It is essential that we, their fellow peace officers, their loved ones, their friends and relatives carry the memory of these men in our hearts forever. [Music] shall be free. They sacrifice and [Music] proudly the work of law enforcement must be carried on [Music] continue in their steps. These deaths are not in vain. [Music] This monument stand to their name.
