The KTLA newsfilm collection at UCLA consists of cut and unedited stories, outtakes and fill footage, originally shot on 16mm reversal film stock with magnetic soundtrack. Some footage, particularly material not used for broadcast, may be without sound.

Summary: Seven community papers serve East Los Angeles, including the Eastside Sun. The family-owned papers, which focus exclusively on news and events in the local community, were in danger of folding, but new owners stepped in to ensure the community would keep its local papers. Stan Chambers interviews a woman, possibly the owner or an employee, who talks about the focus of the paper, having the first bilingual front page and running bilingual ads. Footage includes exterior shots of the building, employees at work, and shots of the finished paper. Also includes voiceover segments with no picture.

[KTLA Reporter Stan Chambers] "The Eastside Sun," is one of seven community newspapers of the Eastern Group Publications serving East L. A. [Chambers] The papers had been family-owned for thirty five years, but they were in danger of folding. [Chambers] When the new owners from East Los Angeles stepped in two months ago, to make sure the local community would continue to have its own local weekly. [Chambers] The staff is small. Eleven working at the busiest time. [Eastside Sun Spokesperson] We're unique in the fact that, ah, we have a, I suppose, the first bilingual front page. By that, I mean, we have, a section at the top of the newspaper that is in Spanish, and then the bottom half of the front page is in English. We have, ah, bilingual ads. Both Spanish and English. We do translating for people. We, um, Community-oriented. We really report only community news or anything that might impact on them. [Chambers] These are the mastheads of the seven papers published by the Eastern Group Publications. [Chambers] They're delivered every Thursday morning to the door of some fifty thousand homes here in East Los Angeles. Stan Chambers reporting, for News at Ten.
