I think that first of all we have an appalling Gap in our educational system when three out of every four women that contact us indicate they're aware of various birth control methods but choose not to use them it's pretty bad we're not showing them that this is a safe method we're putting them through needless worry when we see things like this it scares us I think that we've got to do something on the educational level in the schools what what what really surprised me when I started Mr deer what are some of the facts that have come out of this survey of yours well first of all let me give you a picture of the average woman she is 22 years old she is white well educated a high school graduate or better she's in her first pregnancy she comes from a middle to upper middle class she is not a an habitual user of alcohol barbituates amphetamin hallucinogenics or hard drugs she is not a welfare client were there any surprises to personally that came out of the survey yes I expected that uh the representation in the minority groupings would be much higher and the representation of welfare women would be much higher one of the really shocking things that came out of it was that almost one out of four of the women who had therapeutic abortions indicated that regardless of what the law said they would have had one anyhow what conclusions can be drawn what areas will you be going into as a result of this survey we're going to be putting more emphasis on the educational aspects of birth control along with this approximately the 1st of March we will be opening in the Hollywood area a walk-in facility for birth control advice and information no charge pregnancy testing and we will also be putting into operation a very lowcost medically sound vasectomy program
