Reel 1: Segment 1 (silent): Woman playing with small children in a yard; picks one child up and carries it to a car. Fire crew on site at the residence. Shot of a large hole in the ground with a pulley system installed over it, police or fire inspectors look down into the well at debris at the bottom of it. Segment 2 (silent): Wildfire. Shots of fire crew working on foot in an oak-covered hillside. Shot of a quarry or other facility on a hillside. Segment 3 (sound): Interview with U.S. track and field coach, reacting to the disappointment of the Russians pulling out of the scheduled Cold War track meet to be held in Berkeley the coming weekend. Says everyone was disappointed and they're still recovering from it. The athletes didn't know what was going to happen, and didn't understand why politics had to affect track and field. The reporter asks whether there will still be a track meet in Berkeley this weekend, and the answer is yes. The coach says that they're taking the three best in each event in the U.S. and then filling in with others. Organizers are also trying to arrange a meet in Los Angeles to makeup for the cancellation by the Russians, with Australians, and New Zealanders, and it might turn out to be an even better meet, a blessing in disguise. Reel 2 (sound): Interview with man on the subject of sex education, or family life education, proposals in San Jose, and a recent city council hearing on the subject. He says that someone in the audience accused him and the health department of trying to turn youngsters into perverts or send them off into wild fields of sex activities by educating them. He says the program has strong support from the community, and from parents, in the City of San Jose. People who oppose it are naïve - kids are already getting an education, but it's from places like bathroom walls, or worse. They want to give kids information from experts, and he lists the evidence backing why it's necessary - venereal disease in the high schools, high school dropouts due to pregnancy and early marriage. He describes how the program would be operated. He says some of the people opposing this at the City Council meeting have also opposed other initiatives such as water fluoridation, and it may be part of right-wing organized opposition. Reel 3 (silent + sound): Auditorium filled with women, a meeting of the Santa Clara County nurses regarding decision on whether or not to strike. The representative from the California Nurses Association speaks at the microphone, to applause. Two men also speak, reading from slips of paper, providing support from the medical association. The men are interviewed by reporter who asks, "What is the temper of the nurse in Santa Clara County right now?" "Well, I think it's a recognition of her dignity and a desire to participate fully in the economic life of this community. These girls have been behind, as it were, for a long time, and the temper can best be described as a recognition of their worth and a desire to have that recognized by the hospitals..." The reporter asks how tough a nut is the Hospital Administrators Association going to be to crack, and whether the women will actually go ahead with the strike if they can't reach an agreement. Reel 4: Segment 1 (silent): Motorcycle police outside Billy Wilson's Bottle Shop. Interior shots of the liquor store, as the cops interview the employee or owner, who gesticulates as he describes an event. Shot of one of the policemen on dispatch at his motorcycle, then inside taking notes. Segment 2 (sound): Dennis Rowedder interviews a representative from the Parachute Club of America outside their national headquarters. The man says they've been asked by the U.S. State Department not to compete in East Germany because it would be seen as a recognition of the Community government there. Rowedder asks if they've competed their in the past, and the man says they've competed with East Germany in the past 2 years, but not inside of East Germany.
