Description: Observes the events leading up to John Adams becoming Vice President under George Washington and, eventually, President himself. Records how Adams throws the Senate into turmoil over questions of protocol and is accused of trying to bring the ways of European aristocracy to the new government. Explains that the French Revolution divides the country into two factions--those supporting the French cause led by Thomas Jefferson, and those opposed with Alexander Hamilton as their leader--and depicts the problems in dealing with a warring Europe. Concludes as John Adams is elected President and inherits a cabinet loyal to Hamilton.
