Italy to Pennsylvania by Philip H. Elwood, 1930

Description: Iowa State College landscape architecture professor Philip H. Elwood took students on a tour in the summer of 1930. This film covers highlights of the France and England portions of that trip. Features a train ride through the Austrian Alps, visits to Versailles and fountains, circular colonnade of Mansart, and fireworks in the Basin of Neptune, Fontainebleau, Napoleon's island pavilion, and canal. Includes Vaux-le-Vicomte near Melum with the cĥateau, service buildings and stables, and statue of Hercules. Highlights of Paris include Champs d'Elysees, Malmaison, St. Germaine Terrace, Notre Dame, Jardin des Plantes, and a Turkish mosque. Film footage In England includes Groombridge Place gardens and stables, and Brockhurst. Concludes with scenes aboard the SS Statendam and return to Philadelphia with a view of Fairmont Parkway.
