Presents the environmental and cultural characteristics of San Francisco's Chinatown. Tells about an American-born Chinese boy who hopes for a major part in the lion dance in the Chinese New Year's celebration. Boy goes to Chinese school. Talks to uncle about being Chinese. Family gathers at his house for Chinese New Year. He is disappointed when he founds out he got a minor role instead. Uncle convinces him of the importance of the gong role. Boy plays gong in celebration.
