Dating to the late 1920s / early 1930s, this silent home movie shows a trip to Florida. It starts with images of a rural road and duck pond, presumably on the way to Florida. At :42 a young man in a Boy Scout uniform repacks his suitcase on the side of the road. At :48 are images of the famous Biltmore Hotel Miami Coral Gables (aka Miami Biltmore Hotel) which hosted fashion shows and aquatic galas. As many as 3,000 people would come out on a Sunday afternoon to watch the synchronized swimmers, acrobatic performers, bathing beauties, and even alligator wrestlers. At 2:36, images of mansions and yachts in Miami Beach followed by a shot of the National Hotel at 2:50. At 2:59, a Goodyear blimp flies overhead. At 3:32, steamships are visible. At 3:37, a shopping district, with a shop for lease, auto traffic, and storefronts visible. At 4:12, shots of "Millionaire's Row" type mansions, at 4:27 venetian gondolas are visible on a pond. At 4:40, what appears to be a miniature golf course at a hotel. At 4:55, the beach. At 5:47, the Polo Fields and a polo match. At 8:56, a large outdoor event, apparently a beauty contest -- possibly Miss Florida or Miss Universe. At 9:06 an automobile marked "California Car" drives past. At 9:33, more shots of the beach. At 10:19, a boat with a large sail advertising the "Hackney, Atlantic City" lobster house. At 10:29, pelicans. At 11:13, shacks are seen in rural Florida, probably former slave homes now owned by sharecroppers. At 11:18 African American / Black children are seen outside the homes. At 11:35, more dilapidated shacks and a barn are shown. At 12:04, a sign for the Phoenetia, probably in Coral Gables. At 12:16, various shots of apartment buildings in Coral Gables, possibly on Lincoln Road. At 12:47, a swim club or natatorium. At 13:15, two people pose in front of a building marked "W.J. Howey Co." Howey Co. was a Florida corporation that planted and sold orange groves. At 13:20, a large orange grove is shown. At 13:48, a chain gang or group of convicts are seen working on the side of the road. All the prisoners are wearing striped clothes. At 13:57, a group of Black men tend to pigs. At 14:14, damage from flooding is shown, with many buildings under water.
