How Billy Keeps Clean (1951)

[Music] Billy and Jerry are on their way home for supper so long Jerry see you tomorrow it seems like Billy had a lot of fun too and when you're playing hard having fun you expect to get dirty and Billy certainly did just look at him now look just a few minutes later mother likes to see Billy so clean and neat and so do we but there are more reasons for being clean do you know some of them do you know why Billy wants to be so clean well let's find out when Billy comes home from school he takes off his school clothes and hangs them up neatly ready for tomorrow this way his school clothes stay cleaner then he puts on some play clothes these are easier for mother to wash so he can play as hard as he likes and Billy does play hard look there dirty already it's only mud but watch Sam see what he did Sam is getting some germs on his hand from his runny nose but you can't see the germs let's pretend we can see where they are there but let's watch the game and we'll see where the germs go there goes some germs right now on Jerry's chest watch where will they go next Billy yes billy gets some of the germs onto his hand and nowhere on the ball of course and soon everyone will have some of Sam's germs of course there are other kinds of dirt there's mud or dirt from the ground there's greasy dirt the kind you'll find on wagons and bicycles and machines there's perspiration that comes out through tiny holes in our skin if we don't wash it away it soon smells bad in this girl's hair you can see little flakes of dry worn out skin that should be washed away but most important of all are germs that should be washed off before they can get inside our bodies how can we get clean rubbing may get off some of the dirt but you still leave a lot on and with just plain water only a little more dirt comes off what will get your hands clean well Billy wants to wash his hands let's see how he gets them cleaned first warm water and then soap Billy rubs the soap around and around in his hands until he has lots of Subs then he rubs his hands together all around he rubs between his fingers and he rubs his arms rubbing like this with soapy water is a good way to get clean and then rinse all the soap off because the dirt is with the soap and so are the germs even though we can't see them all right drain and rinse the basin now Billy's hands and arms are clean what next a fresh Basin of water a washcloth Billy's own washcloth and soap can you guess what Billy's going to do yes he's going to wash his face all of it no monkey business forehead eyes nose mouth it's important to wash in all the places dirt and germs might be and now for the ears outside and in do you wash your ears like this then Billy washes all around his neck like Billy you should use plenty of water to get off all the soap so it won't make your skin itchy and sore now rinse out your cloth then dry yourself Billy dries himself pretty well rubbing and rubbing with a towel do you know why Billy dries so carefully well if you go out in the cold with your face or hands wet your skin may become chapped it may dry and crack and feel sore so dry yourself very well in a warm room what now Billy's all clean isn't he he checks in the mirror face neck hands all clean up one more thing to do comb your hair make it neat again Billy can do pretty well by himself though sometimes he likes to have mother help and there he is all cleaned up he washed away all the germs and dirt from playing no wonder mother's proud of him now just when should we wash Billy knows because he once colored a poster about that you should wash after play before eating and after going to the toilet and of course you should bathe often every day is best why should you wash so often we know why you should wash after play don't we because you want to freshen up and get rid of all the dirt and germs well then why wash before eating because any germs on your hands could get onto your food and so get inside your body why do you wash after going to the toilet well there are always many germs in our body wastes and you want to wash those germs away too why should you bathe often do you know because we get dirty all over not just on our hands and faces so Billy bathes every day he likes to take a shower best especially if his mother or father can help how does he bathe well it's just like washing your hands or face use lots of soap and warm water about once a week Billy washes his hair the same way when he bathes he starts at his head and works all the way down to his feet he washes his feet carefully do you know why many people catch a skin infection commonly called athlete's foot it makes the skin between their toes all red and sore washing your feet carefully and drying them very dry is the best way to avoid athlete's foot Billy also makes sure to dry his feet last so any germs he might have there won't spread from the towel to the rest of his body and now look at Billy he's clean all over and ready for a good night's rest do you remember how Billy keeps clean wash after play before eating and after going to the toilet bathe often and always use plenty of soap and warm water now it's the next morning and Billy's on his way but where is his friend Jerry well Jerry is in bed sick you see Jerry didn't wash when he came home from playing football yesterday can you guess why he is sick let's
