Built in the 1930s by an Italian-born cotton baron, Pio Crespi, the French chateau-inspired house is covered in Indiana limestone and decorative ironwork. It is believed that the man shown in the film is Crespi, but this has not been confirmed. Another building shown at 3:40 is not identified. At 3:39 are views of the Cherokee Plantation main house and grounds. The Cherokee Plantation, also known as the Board House, is now a 7,000-acre private golf and sporting club. It was originally part of a land grant to Joseph Blake in 1690. The plantation relied on slave labor up until the time of the Civil War.
