Description: This silent Kodachrome home movie dates from the 1950s or early 1960s and shows stables at what might be the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, the Pico House, Hollywood Blvd. at Christmas time (4:55) and Sequoia National Park (5:43). Desmond's department store (8:02) on Wilshire Blvd., the Pet Haven Pet Cemetery (8:30) in Gardena, and a miniature golf course (9:30) are also shown. M.V. Grifith and C.E. Ranzenberger began Pet Haven Cemetery in 1948. The pair were frustrated by watering restrictions at the Los Angeles Pet Cemetery in Calabasas that kept the grave of one of their beloved family dogs from being covered with green grass. Griffith and Ranzenberger decided to start their own facility where the grass could be kept as green as they wanted it to be.It is now known as the Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park & Crematorium, the Calabasas cemetery was founded in 1928 and is still in operation. It and Pet Haven remain the only two pet cemeteries in Los Angeles County.
