Description: Shot in 1946 by a U.S. serviceman, this silent 8mm home movie shows various sites in Hawaii including the Kau Kau Korner restaurant at 6:18. The Kau Kau was one of Hawaii's first drive-in restaurants, located on the corner of Kalakaua Avenue and Kapiolani Blvd. (then known as The Crossroads of the Pacific.) Built 1935, the restaurant opened in 1936 and was a much photographed landmark for 25 years. Other sights include the Statue of King Kamehameha Statue at :08, Iolani Palace at :31, vistas of Honolulu 1:25, Waikiki Beach 3:29, flowers shot in close-up 4:30, Diamond Head 6:40, the Lau Yee Chai Chinese restaurant at 7:20. After 7:50 the film shows home movie footage of a baby, including crib shots and baby with swimsuit-clad mom at 14:04.
