This major sequence is followed by a very different kind of event in which a son is recognized with a Purple Heart ceremony and award from the army, following either injury or loss of life in Vietnam. In both events the family is close-knit and affectionate. The wedding is lavish with a tall tiered cake, catered delights served in silver chafing dishes, and the wedding party and featured guests dressed in expressive soft pinks, silvers, and aqua tones. Whether through the military, church activity, or other forum, the Black family who created this reel hosted friends and colleagues representing additional communities sharing their joys and sorrows with them.
