HOLY SMOKE IN THREE ACTS

[Music] once upon a time there was a young girl who liked to draw pictures usually she drew them about herself [Music] since she found herself in the middle of problems this is the way she would make the picture some problems were very close by and they seemed to keep piling up by the truckload now drugs were not really her problem but drugs were all around her so she often drew pictures of drugs in large quantities what a pile of junk [Music] of course there were friendly drugs and frightening drugs but so much talk was given to frightening drugs she often said holy smoke and then would start to cry even though she cried the frightening drugs didn't go away in fact they seemed to be piled higher and higher and higher [Music] there seemed to be no end an endless truckload of junk which you could only build a horrible world out of because her picture also included all the bad results from drug abuse sickness and even death in the end it all became impossible and the girl made her picture look just the way she felt drowned in her tears next there was a boy who also liked to draw pictures he too would often draw them about himself he found himself in a hard world so that's the way he would draw himself in the middle of a hard world well drugs were not his problem but warnings about drugs were all around him and so he would drop pictures of himself in the middle of all the warnings [Music] he knew some drugs were good but usually he heard about bad drugs forbidden drugs so he drew pictures of how he felt namely a little angry in fact he would steam with anger but his anger didn't do any good he felt buried people were building on top of him a world of don'ts and threats so that's how he drew the picture he knew adults used drugs too but often people talked only about the young and it was not always complementary [Music] it was just too much all it did in the end was to make a dark and gloomy world looking at his picture the voice said holy smoke does the world have to be so hard and so sad finally the girl who do pictures and the boy who drew pictures got together they decided to draw something better a picture of a building made out of their dreams a picture of a world where no one tried to escape because everyday life was pretty exciting life made sense there was plenty to do and people felt good about themselves they drew words they would like to hear more often words like be yourself we like you as you are trust in their picture they built up a better world a world without phoniness full of neighbors where everyone felt accepted welcome the boy and the girl got higher and higher as they drew their new world a world of exciting experiences of hard work but not phony work and therefore of real success they put in all the words for friendship for getting along with people for making life meaningful and really interesting an honest world where no one had to hide or escape in such a world they felt they could fly really fly high on friendship and confidence and good work to do high on life real life it wouldn't be an instant high but it would be better permanent high that could last all your life and that's where they ended up [Music] [Applause] you
