On the day of his marriage to a strict Quaker and his retirement as Marshall of a small frontier town, Will Kane is warned that a band of outlaws, who have previously terrorized the community, will return on the noon train. The local worthies refuse to support Kane and he must face the danger alone. The theme of the maverick who must confront cowardice and peril unaided provided an allegory for the troubling manifestations of the McCarthy era. (Does not circulate)
