Hell's Kitchen chronicle

Explores a New York City neighborhood's many-sided struggle to save itself from becoming a disposable community as soaring rents and landlords force out longtime residents and small businesses. The inner life of this urban environment is seen through a series of human encounters, among them an aging opera singer's rooftop swan song, a homeless woman's observation of life, an ex-vaudeville performer's last act and a street gang's violent iconography.
