Description: Tells of the importance of seed-producing plants, distinguishes between angiosperms and gymnosperms and between dicotyledons and monocotyledons. Through time-lapse photography, shows the germination of a variety of seeds. Illustrates with samples of the various seeds and explains that all seeds are alike in that they contain an embryo, a seed coat, and food. By drawings, distinguishes between monocots and dicots and discusses the plumule and hypocotyl. Depicts the treating of seeds to speed germination and, by time-lapse photography, demonstrates germination. Points out that the size of the seed is no indication of the size of the resulting plant.
