Growing Old: Something to Live For

Year Published: 1970

Complete Record: The elderly today make up the largest minority in America. They feel they should be allowed to continue working-if not in there original positions, then in some other capacity. They are able and willing to be useful if society will allow them to be; they are not willing to settle for mere survival when so much more is possible. Anthropologist Margaret Mead comments that when people feel they have nothing to live for, they being to feel old. There is the challenge: to make sure that there is something to live for as we grow old.
