Bounded on the north by four of the five Great Lakes and edged by the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers -- this region of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin is almost like an island. The rich soils make agriculture an important industry, but the automobile industry also predominates.
