Description: Projects a pessimistic future for fossil fuel as the world's energy source in the 21st century noting that current, more efficient ways for the extraction, conversion, and consumption of fossil fuels are, at best, delaying measures. Examines the impracticalities and limitations in the development of nuclear fission and wind, tidal, and geothermal forces as significant future power sources. Cites solar radiation and nuclear fusion as the best alternatives but warns that it will be 1980 before we know if fusion is technologically possible and that space developments will be needed before solar energy can become a 24-hour-a-day energy source.
