[Music] looking good come September along the fishing banks off the coast of South Carolina a good time and a good place for catching fish the crew of the dragger Dante know well but if you don't mind hard work and long hours you can earn a good day's pay out here you're dreaming we got three four days another three or four days if the weather holds September can bring calm and sunny weather to these waters it can also bring death and destruction within the next 48 hours this tiny fishing vessel will experience the full horrors of perhaps nature's most terrifying natural disaster [Music] several days ago off the coast of Africa a small event took place a common thing that would be insignificant in most times and places but not here it began simply as an area of low pressure but in this part of the world between June and November these innocent low-pressure areas are known as weather breeders as air moves into the low-pressure spot to fill a vacuum it begins to spin as the earth turns on its axis little by little over a period of days the spin gathers intensity the winds grow stronger the storm area grows larger the center becomes tighter more violent as the wind stops 74 miles per hour the storm becomes a hurricane men of the sea have fished these waters since the days of the first settlers and always they have lived in fear of being overtaken by the ravaging surprises of nature by the Hurricanes born in the tropics far out of sight in the Atlantic or in the Caribbean or the Gulf of Mexico throughout man's history these but now we can at least be forewarned more quickly and accurately and hopefully better prepared since 1960 weather satellites have given us the ability to observe and track a hurricane from the time of its birth predict its course and sound a life-saving warning [Music] these satellites developed and launched by NASA and operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration NOAA feedback vital data that can be incorporated into forecasts and warnings the spring Sage has enabled us to witness what no man has ever before seen the development of a tropical storm and its growth into a hurricane NOAA National Hurricane Center marine advisory number 24 stormy me chained gale warnings to hurricane warnings from Marathon to Vero Beach gale warnings and a hurricane watch remain in active reports last morning indicate that mean we strengthened during the night it has become a full hurricane highest sustained winds near the center at 90 miles per hour with gusts to 110 at 6 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time hurricane Mimi was located by satellite pictures coastal radar and reconnaissance aircraft near latitude 24 degrees north longitude 79 degrees west it is moving Northwest to 10 miles per hour and is expected to reach the coast early tonight it is a frightening and wrenching experience to flee an approaching hurricane nothing can make this any easier however modern technology makes early warning possible and has helped save many thousands of lives [Music] [Music] daddy is Devon by nowhere I can't here's time sitting to the salad we're staying out now she ain't coming this right you know the cook him out through the fishing me me slams the shore with unladylike violence the water rises in a storm surge a wind-driven tide of rapid flooding it will account for nine out of every ten hurricane deaths every now and then a tornado with even stronger winds will leap off from the advancing storm front and lash havoc across the landscape the eye of the hurricane a deceiving law with gentle winds and almost clear skies suddenly the full fury begins again with winds now howling from exactly the opposite direction sending objects flying like toy airplanes yes the Hurricanes cruel energy is being spent as long as it remains overlap no longer able to draw power from the warmth and moisture of the ocean the storm will slowly die what Mimi has some tricks left instead of dying over the land she beers back again to see she leaves behind the battlefield of aching memories [Music] poor fishermen like the crew of the Dante Mimi is still a threat even as it passes far to the south of them for the path of a hurricane is erratic forever uncertain it must be constantly watched NOAA National Hurricane Center marine advisory number 32 hurricane Mimi gale warnings and hurricane watch are in effect from Charleston to Cape Hatteras satellite pictures and reconnaissance reports confirmed that hurricane Mimi has veered during the night and now poses a serious threat to the Carolina coast the danger that has been distant and remote now comes closer to the men of the Dante the storm has feared back toward them the warning gives them no time to lose they must cut away their precious Nets and make a dash to the north their only hope of survival [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] in spite of advanced warnings there are always some who foolishly stay behind it just came down through this area just like an ocean wave more or less and these people right in here they just didn't have a chance and just took area all these houses through here was anyone living in the house yes I'm here huh Oh Oliver bow on his wife and two little children their little children make it round in my house was in the 12 feet of water and I see you know if you buy all my family his bed destruction their home any and we and I never I hope I never see nothing like this again I met a young but it takes his heart blow he's found to being here somewhere because all these are the houses that came from in this divinity they're all ready in this neighborhood but man was left on the phone [Music] for some the tragedy has been immediate for others it is a time of suspense we're all right thank God but my husband's out fishing the storm came right through him before it hit sure and I can't get him on the radio all I can do is pray here the weather recording got out of there all I can do is pray [Music] the Rising Sun finds the Dante fishing her way toward Hall the storm has died its fearful winds dissipated at last many miles inland the fishermen through careful sailing escaped the storm last night desperately calling stationary but there he is calling station a we're fishing again now one more dragon we come in sure we unload daddy is our last night he had all he could do to keep the Dante from swampy but now that the storm has passed the captain has time to think to think about modern technology ship to shore communication and earth satellites especially about weather satellites which far above his tiny vessel in the blackness of outer space helped him and thousands of others on land escape from the horrors of the hurricane below I hope everybody in town go to take it on the chin and starts all over again it's time to be tough I don't know for everybody can afford it or that but I'm gonna give the world [Music] everyone seems to be in high spirits why is that [Music] there's one thing for sure we will rebuild yeah we got a beautiful country down here we'll make it beautiful again you oops everybody thanks for joining me today tonight so I was all prepared to stream a show about astronauts tonight because that's what I thought I was gonna do but I looked at the calendar I realized it's supposed to be next week so I'm all set up so I'm gonna show I don't know I'll show a couple of films ones that didn't make the cut for the next week's show but also I wanted to show that hurricane below we just survived a hurricane here it wasn't a bad thing in Raleigh originally the idea was it was gonna go right towards us like you saw the line and it was headed straight dead-on like we were gonna get the hot I but the weather changed in the direction of it changed so that we only got just a little bit we definitely have flooding here and they're still gonna be issues here we lost power but not nearly as bad as people south of us south of us is wrecked it's really wrecked so if you are that the type that likes to donate and you're in the area they need water down there they need food because there's basically civilization is getting washed away there and it's gonna get worse so please donate to your charity that will get what supplies to where they need it because it's gonna be bad there and there's a lot of rural people there who aren't well water they don't have electricity and they don't have any decent water etc Raleigh did okay so um anyways let me start rewinding this what a good chance in case you don't know I am skip Alzheimer I collect old educational films and like to show them to folks like you all over whenever I can I do live shows I'm based in Raleigh North Carolina I have over 25,000 films and I have this nifty piece of equipment right here which allows me to digitize the films and stream them literally online via a couple of boxes for your delight in horror so thanks for tuning in this is impromptu I'm sure a lot of people are like wait a minute let's skip doing on there skip has all this technology but doesn't know how to read his calendar so here we are so next much next week's show is going to actually be about astronauts this is something that you guys picked and I'm excited to show but there's a lot of content I have and I actually digitized like 600 films and videos for NASA about five six years ago maybe 10 years ago at this point yeah that's 10 years ago and so I have a lot of that so there's a lot of stuff that go through to find the best footage and there's a lot of stuff that didn't make the cut because it's only we only did it like two hours so I actually pulled a couple of things that didn't make the cut and we'll watch them because you know it's a freebie screen whatever anyways I appreciate you tuning in you know I'd love to if I had all this equipment set up I'd probably do this a lot more I probably do it once a week I don't know if any of you would think that's a great idea it might drive me nuts but you know whatever it's like I'm a DJ you'll kill an F J film jockey so this is the film we just watched hurricane below it's kind of a NASA film all right this next film as some of you know a lot I delight in science technology and Christianity trying to reconcile science and technology I'm a big fan and wrote an article co-op in an article about the movie institute of science which is a science organization and splinter opted by the Moody Bible Institute which uses science only as a way to talk about the Gospels and so it plays a little fast and loose with the science aspect of it you know have the observations but it doesn't really so this is another religious film that's loosely related to the moon that I have not seen so I'm kind of excited as I think I bought this on eBay a couple years ago and then promptly forgot about it so this might be awesome it might be horrible and it might be so horrible that it's awesome so you get to watch it as a premiere first time I've seen it so here we go this is Marty's moon ride enjoy you okay so this doesn't look like Marnie's been riding I don't know what this is all right let's let's deleted of this feature on this streaming software so I have to kind of set this up while I'm talking to you so it's not like I'm ignoring you but I might be pausing anyways ambrose bierce man big fan big big fan of that guy he is all very annoying so I'm adding back I'm using this wonderful software called open source broadcast but there we go there it is that's not right yeah so I'm using the software and I just inadvertently deleted something so I'm trying to get everything back to where it was but ambrose bierce I remember very much liking his stories when I read them in high school and I think I had a good teacher who really kind of brought the experience and really kind of flesh it out so yeah I mean I just looked and I saw I had like 14 Ambrose Bierce films or films based on his short stories so I might actually do an ambrose bierce a faun which would be great because he so robert enrico directed the mockingbird and if you didn't get the story it's basically the soldier just shoots his twin brother who is on the other side and he now reconciles has to reconcile of it but yeah so I have other ambrose bierce things chica manga which is another one that was done by Robert Enrico and of course occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge and there's some other ones which Robert Henrico didn't do but I might watch them just to see what they are because again great great guy um and I noticed yeah I mean I think a lot of you noticed those like well it seems like occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge because all of the actors look kind of Italian shot I don't know the details were sure but I think Betty this was shot in Italy or Spain or you know um anyways so yes this was a snafu there's a series of snafus tonight in this just a long-running thing so I'm gonna show one more longer film long film and then I'm gonna call it in case I do something that caused the roof to collapse or break the internet or something so yeah so this is what happened are you ready so I had a giant stack of films which is often the case here at baby heats archive there is usually giant stacks of films and so I was racing to pull one film out and I rushed to bring it here and you know pull it pull it out and set it up ready to to set up after I show the hurricane film cuz I was like well you know or whatever you know we'll just we'll just show something and this was one of the films I wanted to show Marty the moon right so I pulled that out and set it down and pull out the film had it ready to go and didn't notice that actually the film that I had pulled was the mockingbird which was right above the film Marni's moon right it's oh there's Barney's moon right right there ah yeah all this technology and we still goof-goof up so I appreciate you guys stayin - maybe that's why you're gonna watch his like what is he gonna mess up now so we're rewinding this very long film in case you're wondering I mean this is real with actually showing recording digitizing and streaming live so we're using sixteen millimeter tella City technology and we're pumping it through a one box which helps me do the color adjustment level stuff then we are pumping it out into another box which converts it into a string a bowl mpeg-4 and then using laptop pumping it to you so there you go what could possibly go wrong with all this technology there's a I used to be a tech support person there was a term we called pep cap which is problem exists between keyboard and and computer I think which is basically saying that the problem is the person that person is clueless because they did not Artie FM so that's what's happening tonight okay all right there's Marty's I can guarantee you that this film is not gonna be a neo realist Italian flavor ambrose bierce adaptation this is gonna be probably a sickly sweet animated christian and cartoon and may or may not invoke science we will see as I said I have not seen this film so so here you go all right so we're gonna try this now anyways know I've been doing this for an hour okay so we're gonna watch Marty's moon alright if you like what you saw you want to tell people about it we're doing another screening next Sunday we're going to show films about astronauts either real astronauts or fake ones including some NASA footage that I got so that is the same time but next week because I got the date wrong but yeah enjoy Marty's moon ride if you Davis said sometimes people are like unidentified flying objects they're sort of mixed up they don't know who they are they do crazy things to get attention you know what I mean people like that need the Lord to help them he made everybody for a special reason everybody's important to the Lord Marty get what I mean yeah let's go easy on Marty I mean if he's not even a Christian yet we got a healthy put your foot right this and put that when you sign it come on come on Marty oh come on hit that ball hey thanks Eric that was stuffed right into it [Music] okay listen to these words again love must be sincere hate what is evil cling to what is good be devoted to one another in brotherly love honor one another above yourselves this is where it said in the Christian life fellows first of all really caring about each other our needs remember what we studied about the meaning of forgiveness that forgiveness includes not looking for bad things and others for things we can criticize or make fun of but remember you can't begin to live the Christian life until you've received this life through personal faith in the Lord Jesus the guy is really being nice to Marty that'll make it a lot easier to help him if our theory is correct and I think it is yeah if anything happens I'll come for you right away [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] they're you Jeff [Music] [Music] [Music] hey Marty [Music] you're not really going our spaceship you're just using [Music] [Music] I thought for sure I saw some spaceship riding them I've had dreams it seemed awfully real I'm just walking in my screen dreaming I thought quite a bit with mr. Davis you know he's just like college in high school thinks I need to go to a shrink to get my head examined mr. Davis thinks you're a UFO I'm what remember how we talked the other night a UFO an unidentified flying object like you've told me you don't think he could be good at anything you think you're not important everybody's important Marty God doesn't make anybody that's unimportant walking in your sleep and having those dreams well that made you really feel like somebody but it was with somebody you really aren't that's not the way you do it God has the only way will you trust in Jesus you can become what God wants you to be that's what's important like mr. Davis said the other day remember a guy could become the best football player or heavyweight champion or maybe a great scientist even the president but if you don't know Jesus I have to tell my question like you Oh Jeff what you do is see yourself at the stir like mr.
