Description: Hitchcock's second American film after Rebecca is a political thriller in which an American newspaperman is dispatched to Europe to explore the political situation. He discovers treachery and collusion. The Nazis and their agents have kidnapped a Dutch diplomat who is carrying a secret Allied treaty back to his country. (Does not circulate) In 1939, the editor of the New York Globe appoints John Jones (Joel McCrea) as a foreign correspondent, under the pen name Huntley Haverstock. The reporter's first assignment is Stephen Fisher, leader of the Universal Peace Party, at an event held by Fisher in honor of a Dutch diplomat named Van Meer (Albert Basserman) The group follows the assassin to the countryside, where they see a windmill begin turning backwards: obviously a signal. They find the man who was shot in front of a large crowd by a man disguised as a photographer. They escape in an aircraft before the police arrive
