Description: This 1964 tourism film presents highlights of Marion County, Florida. Florida is the USA's southernmost point and the only legitimate subtropical area (:38). Marion County is in the heart of Florida (:52). A few minutes from the city of Ocala is Silver Springs (1:12) and a view is given of its waters through a glass bottom boat (1:20). 35 different species of fish inhabit these waters (1:25). The main spring cavern shown is the largest in the world and holds 660 million gallons of water (1:28). Silver Springs is known as the underwater motion picture capitol of the world (1:45). A 100-acre area filled with dogwoods and azaleas is shown (1:55). Behind Carol, the film’s photographer / story teller, swims the Scenic Naval Cruiser taking a 45-minute tour down Silver River (2:02) through subtropical jungle (2:09). A colony of monkeys is viewed (2:17). At the Ross Island’s Reptile Institute, a young boy rides a large turtle’s back (2:22). An hourly demonstration of venom extraction is conducted on rattlesnakes (2:31). At the International Deer Ranch are animals from 18 different countries (2:42) and in the nursery children are at play with baby animals (2:55). The 400,000-acre Ocala National Forest (6:26) is a short distance from here and picnickers enjoy the waters of Juniper Springs (6:33). The area boasts campsites and nature trails (6:44). as she records on film the present-day story of ocala and marion county florida only a few minutes from ocala his world-famous silver springs millions of visitors each year thrilled to the exciting beauty of the underwater world seen through the magic of glass-bottomed boats beneath the calm surface of silver river are more than 35 species of fish and a hundred barack the main spring cavern largest in the world gushing forth 660 million gallons of water daily is often used as an underwater location for motion picture companies hundreds of movies and television shows have been filmed here earning silver springs the title of underwater motion picture capital of the world not all the beauty of silver springs lies beneath the surface of its waters located in a 100 acre azalea and dogwood scented park florida's silver springs is the home of several other major attractions taking visitors down the silver river on a 45-minute thrill ride through nearly five miles of dense subtropical the life of christ complete to the minutest detail they are the creations of the sculptor artist paul cunningham who is also noted for his beautiful seascapes here at silver springs is an early american museum with showpieces from all parts of the world providing entertainment and pleasure for the entire family with its shops and exhibits of days gone by the ladies of all ages are drawn to the international doll and toy shop here dolls of all countries sizes and ages reign in majesty each with its own fascinating biography clark's circus of wood a complete circus carved by the foremost wood carvers in the world during the past 27 years a day in marion county wouldn't be complete without a cool invigorating dip in the 72 degree waters of the bathing beach at silver springs [Music] the unusual clarity of the waters permits bathers using face masks to see objects clearly for distances of hundreds of feet beneath the surface and now it's all aboard partner for a ride on the 164
