Floating Market: Bangkok

Duration: 11

Year Published: 1970

Creator: Aci Productions

Format: 16mm

Description: Against the atmospheric background of the famous river market in Bangkok--Thaliand's capital city--the film tells of a nineteen-year-old Thai girl who spends her days traveling up and down the river in a small boat selling fruit. She buys her produce from the open markets in the city and uses the money she makes to help support her family. While focusing on the young girl, the film provides an overall view of the city and its people--particularly those of the "floating market". Many of the poorer Thais live here on boats throughout the year. They make their living selling produce and fish or exchanging items they have for things they need.
