Fishermen of Quintay; U.N. Screen Magazine #24

Creator: United Nations Dept of Public Info

Format: 16mm

Description: Portrays the formation of a cooperative among the fishermen of a Chilean village, through which the villagers could sell their fish and buy needed provisions. Shows the initial dependence of the fishermen on a lone merchant with a truck, who bought their fish and sold them food from the city. Depicts the poverty of the fishermen, though Chile needs more fish, and illustrates how, with the help of the Chilean Inspector of Fisheries and a UN expert from Denmark, the fishermen attacked their problem with common action through a cooperative.
