First Heartbeats And The Beginning Of The Circulation Of Blood In The Embryo

Creator: Univ Of Michigan Medical School

Format: 16mm

Sound: sound

Description: Begins with time-lapse micromoving pictures, showing the fusion of the cardiac primordia to form the primitive tubular heart. Follows by film running at normal speed showing the first tentative heartbeats, and by a series of similar records showing the changes in the character of the beat as the heart develops. Demonstrates the gradient in the inherent contraction rate of the fundamental regional divisions of the heart, and the shift in the pacemaking center as the heart develops beyond its early tubular form. Includes the breaking loose of corpuscles from the blood islands.
