Description: The films in this compilation are typical of production before the turn of the century. The first pictures were made for the Edison Kinetoscope, a peephole device evolved by William K. L. Dickson. The fiction film began with such short pictures as the one on the execution of Mary Queen of Scots. The documentary has its roots in the scenes of babies being bathed and stables burning. Titles include: Chinese Laundry (1894), The Execution of Mary Queen of Scots (1895), Dickson Experimental Sound Film (1895), The Irwin-Rice Kiss (1896), Feeding the Doves (1896), Morning Bath (1896), New York Street Scenes (1896-1898), etc.
