Description: Begins with a short discussion of radiation as it occurs in nature and man-made variety. Explains the three types of radiation fallout caused when nuclear devices are exploded in the atmosphere. Atmospheric fallout is restricted to the immediate area of the explosion because of the heaviness of the radioactive particles. Intermediate fallout, which is composed of much lighter radio-active particles enters the troposphere. Little is known about the third type of fallout — delayed or stratospheric fallout — except that it may remain in the air for months or even years because of the extremely light weight of its particles.
