Faces

Description: Sue Ford’s experimental film Faces consists of portraits of the artist and her friends and acquaintances. Each subject is framed in close-up and filmed for roughly 25 seconds at a time. Variously self-conscious, serious, nonchalant, curious, amused and distracted, the camera captures every small gesture, expression and flicker of emotion on the person’s face. The result is an examination of portraiture and the performance of identity, demonstrating the artist’s interest in using the camera to capture reality, time and change.
