Description: Titles are: 1. TIME & TOOLS: INTRODUCTION. Provides an introduction to the series. Explains the various tools used by the geologist and the importance of time in the study of the earth. Shows ways that the face of the earth is 'unchanging' yet 'ever-changing.' Identifies five types of present day clues used to understand the changes in earth history. 2. PLAIN DIRT. Explains the physical and chemical processes of weathering. Shows how rock is converted from soil and then reconverted to rock. Discusses these processes as they relate to the changing nature of the earth's surface. 3. EROSION. Describes the work of water in forming the fine features of the earth. Explains the hydrologic cycle. Shows the mechanics of water as it erodes and moves materials over the surface eventually forming valleys, canyons, plains, and deltas. 4. THE RIVER. Shows how nature makes a solid rock through the compaction of loose sediment and silt under great pressure. Explains how age of rocks is determined. Shows how fossils are being used in identification of animals. Discusses changes in land mass of North America as a result of great sedimentation during the geologic past. 9. BREAKING AND BENDING.
