Eternal Change: Story of a Mountain

Year Published: 1974

Complete Record: Shows the evolution and continuing changes of Mount Rainier, a typical volcanic peak in the Cascade Range in northwestern United States. Created by a rift in the earth’s surface through which molten lava erupted and built up slopes, the mountain grew higher with deposits of pumice and ash and is now 14,410 feet high. Surface of the mountain is changed by glaciers, by action of meltwater, rain and rivers, by mud slides, and by snow avalanched. Timelapse photography shows the motion of the glaciers and the changing face of the mountain in different seasons.
