Presents an accurate, highly realistic portrait of two different yet representative Americans: one a salesman the other an artist. Alternates between the two men, showing scenes from their daily lives. All men, women, and children who appear are non-performers, yet all respond spontaneously to the conversations, the subjects, and the events that take place. Offers no conclusions or judgements about either way of life. The camera selects details and the viewer interprets them.
