Echo II 14 Packing (silent, 1964?)

Silent footage of preparation of materials for the Echo 2 satellite. The Echo 2 spacecraft was a 41-meter aluminum foil-Mylar balloon designed as a rigidized passive communications satellite for testing propagation, tracking, and communication techniques. It featured a beacon telemetry system to provide tracking signals, monitor skin temperature ranging from -120°C to +16°C, and measure internal pressure variations during inflation. The system, powered by solar cell panels, transmitted at 136.17 MHz and 136.02 MHz with a minimum power output of 45 mW. Beyond its primary communications mission, Echo 2 contributed to global geometric geodesy studies. The spacecraft ultimately re-entered Earth’s atmosphere on June 7, 1969.
