Complete Record: From September 18, 2009 screening PR: “Beyond rare film focused on the great Australian Beat combo the Easy beats during their time in England. Director Peter Clifton went on to make the Led Zeppelin film The Song Remains The Same and many other music films and videos, but this was his first. Apparently this film has been lost since 1970, and neither Clifton nor Producer Glen Baker has been able to track it down. Oddball’s copy is mostly intact, with some great performances (alas- lip synced), screaming fans, in the studio working on the song “Heaven and Hell”, lots of goofing, and pre-MTV “videos” of “Who’ll Be The One”, “Loch Lomond” (unreleased), “Saturday Night”, and their smash hit “Friday On My Mind”. The film was originally released with the whimsical title “Somewhere Between Heaven and Woolworths”, then changed to the more prosaic Easy “Come, Easy Go”. A must see for all Easybeats fans!!” LOGGING: Voice over narration about George, a member of the band. Stills of shaggy, dark haired man in pinstripe suit, sunglasses, holding guitar and microphone and moving shots from concerts. Footage of small, light colored box van driving down alley with song playing. Narration with stills and footage of the bass player, Vick, a shaggy, dark haired man with a top hat, cable knit sweater. Back to the van driving down busy UK city streets with 60s cars and people walking about. Narration with stills and footage of ‘ the big fellow’, Harry. Blonde haired tall man with suit jacket and hollow bodied guitar. Narration and shots of Nellie, twenty one year old man with shorter black hair and round black glasses. This is the drummer, footage from a concert of him playing drums. Box van drives through more of the town and through a square area with a round fountain with music in background. Stills and concert footage of the narrator, a young white man with medium length black hair and white tee shirt. Stage footage of the singer with microphone and shiny shirt. Van pulls up on residential street in front of a brick house and the group of twenty something men, the band, gets out and goes to the door. Inter-cut with footage of the band practicing in a small bedroom and a couple of female fans pounding on the door. The band sits in a bedroom and talks, practices. Masses of girls running all over airstrip to get to the band members who are disembarking from a silver and white jet plane. Girls and running fans are being tackled by police. Crowds of fans push on fence barriers to get to band members on airstrip. Police hold them back and try to stop escapees. Girls being snagged by police by their hair. Band members talk to camera, throw drum cases down stairs, roughhouse and joke around in various shots. The lead man calls on a phone in a white practice room and makes a deal for a show. Band members practice guitar and try out different sounds, talk with each other about how the new tunes sound. Voice over of writing songs with mood and footage of band members practicing in a studio. Strumming guitar and putting together beats and jams. They discuss lyrics and try out various sounds and parts for a new song. Footage of recording station and sound booth. Guitar player strums in sound room while recording engineer tests levels and adjust knobs on huge mixer panel. WHITE LEADER One band member play poker and drinks at a small table with a couple guys in hats and suits. One man wears a wide brimmed hat and striped shirt and a woman with a lavish dress and jewelry sits next to the band member. The nervous band member throws in his chips and takes a drink on a large bet. He wins the hand and collects his chips but is scolded by the man in the wide brimmed hat. The other card players are more serious and smoking, they comment on his card playing and become annoyed with his beginner’s luck. Cut to an imaginary situation of the lead man blindfolded and shot with a gun by one of the other card players. The card players get fed up and pressure him to leave. WHITE LEADER In radio station sound booth, a white male engineer with headphones and hanging microphone puts on a new song of the band’s. Maritime footage of two cargo ships next to each other, men tying boats together and the band members climbing across the ships. The band members play golf on a rough course with woodland and tall grass. One member wears a cable-knit sweater and beanie cap, another carries a large multi colored umbrella. Close-ups of golf clubs and footage of the band fooling around on the course, cheating at the game and making various attempts at playing the game. WHITE LEADER Band members wander in wooded area, float in rowboat in a pond filled with lily pads and plants. They reenact a dramatic sequence with a man climbing around on a stone wall. The man enters an old castle and searches for the source of music. The band is dressed in kilts and Scottish attire and marches in a line through some woods, playing a song of their own. They come out on a field and sit in a row on a log to play their music. They are on a wooden raft in a pond, playing music and paddling around the pond. A hunter takes aim at them while they play (actually one of the members). They make a fire and play traditional Scottish log throwing games, play on see- saw and horse around. They swing on ropes in a tree and ride through wooded areas on horses while the song plays. The horses take a break to eat some bushes. The band is back in Scottish attire, playing on the log, throwing knives at trees, floating on raft, marching through the woods. The hunter, who is one of the band members acts out tracking another member and shoots him in the weeds. Close up of guitar player strumming and talking to camera about the band’s growing recognition. They play in a group wearing ruffled collars and suit jackets. Various shots of the members playing in a white room from various angles. Shots of individual members talking about the future of the band and their lives. One member talks about films and another talks about starting a family after the band is through. A third member, wearing a white sweater talks about the band splitting up after making some money and his plans for after they make more money. The band plays soccer (football) with some others while fans cheer on the sidelines. Lots of goofing around and fun antics on the field. Back to the individual interviews, talking about buying a recording studio and apartments. Footage of the band practicing a song in frilly collared shirts and suit jackets. They get really excited and dance around the small room while the sound of cheering fans comes on over top of the music. The band pretends they are in front of a crowd and begin to play another song, ‘Friday on My Mind’ They jump around the small playing area and play excitedly. The singer looks off into the distance, off camera and the other members pretend that they are in front of a big crowd. They make faces and gestures for the camera and get more and more excited as the song goes on. Various shots of individual members and the group from various angles, all in the same featureless room. Screaming crowd sound rises and the scene cuts. A girl with long brown hair in her twenties stands in a doorway wearing a patterned scarf on her head and talks about what she knows of the band. She explains that they are from Australia and they sound like the Beatles. END
