Complete Record: Follows the Glomar Challenger, a deep sea research and scientific drilling vessel for oceanography and marine geology studies, as it probes the ocean floor in search of clues about the origins of the earth and seas. At the time, the ship was criss-crossing the Mid-Atlantic Ridge as part of the Deep Sea Drilling Program, collecting samples for paleontologic and isotopic dating studies in order to provide conclusive evidence for the sea floor spreading hypothesis and plate tectonics.
