you like rocks Rivers riding mines mountains Meadows hiking hunting history then come to Utah Utah is divid up into 10 dtive erors to make touring a pleasure now a preview of what Utah has to offer for when you take the time to discover the different world of Utah settled in July of 1847 when Brigham Young led a hearty band of Mormon pioneers into the valley of the Great Salt [Music] Lake after traveling hundreds of miles seeking religious freedom he proclaimed this is the place this is the place overlooking the once Aid Desert that surely has blossomed as a rose Salt Lake City capital of Utah is the cultural business and Industrial Center of Mountain America Temple Square center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints started in 1853 the temple took 40 years to complete huge blocks of Utah Granite were quarried and hauled 22 mil to the site by oxcart also on Temple Square the home of the world famous Tabernacle Choir the acoustically perfect Mormon Tabernacle was built without a single nail the beams were secured with wooden pegs glued and then lashed together with Rawhide thongs well kept grounds graceful monuments are eloquent reminders of a proud Pioneer Heritage Eagle gate a few minutes from Temple Square once marked the entrance to briam Young's estate it arches over the State Street entrance to the state capital [Music] grounds up on Capitol Hill old Council Hall Once a meeting place down in the city it was torn down Brick by Brick and rebuilt on this spot overlooking the Valley of the Great Salt Lake it's now headquarters for the Utah travel Council and serves as a visitors information center zoos who in Salt Lake City well hgul zooo the only fullsize zoo in The Inter Mountain Area Pioneer Village and authentic western town was carefully reconstructed it's now operated by the sons of the Utah pioneers how about a world tour through the beautiful floral displays at the International [Music] Peace the University of Utah sits high in the Foothills that surround Salt Lake City a gracious old campus coupled with the progressive modern look of a progressive modern University across the valley in the ochre mountains the Bingham Canyon copper mine the world's largest open pit copper mine deeper than twice the height of the Empire State Building Utah is an Indian word meaning high mountains and in the mountains around Salt Lake Lake are many beautiful canyons and picnic [Music] areas ala one of North America's best ski resorts hosting a 6mon winter season Brighton and Solitude other excellent ski areas where in the summer ski lifts and lodges offer visitors spectacular scenery the easy way the historic old mining town of Park City 30 minutes from Salt Lake was once on the ver of becoming a Ghost Town Park City struck a new Bonanza Recreation the summer visitor can ride America's longest gondola ride play a few rounds of golf or wander around the [Music] mountains the many fine restaurants and in make Park City a wonderful place to stay in this same Alpine area are two of the favorite boating spots in Utah Echo and Rockport [Music] reservoirs heading north away from Salt Lake City we discover more of the different world of Utah 20 minutes by freeway to lagon call the Fun Spot of Utah for obvious [Music] reasons take the spectacular scenic drive up in the mountains behind Lagoon from the top you can see from Ogden to Salt Lake and out onto the Great Salt Flats on the other side of Great Salt Lake Lely little Lakes dot the area offering some fine [Music] fishing Ogden is Utah's second largest city and the Transcontinental Railroad Hub of America spend some time at the beautiful Municipal Gardens in [Music] Ogden this display of America's might stands in honor of the greatest gun inventor the world has ever known uton John M Browning inside this Armory are many of the inventor's original models including the original Browning automatic rifle or B familiar to every GI up into the mountains again driving through beautiful Ogden Canyon to the Pine View Reservoir another of Utah's outstanding boating resorts [Music] a few miles east is huntsville's Our Lady of the Holy Trinity Monastery where Trappist monks welcome visitors to call and listen to authentic Gregorian [Music] chance tucked away up in the corner of Utah on the board is the high mountain boating Paradise be [Music] Lake the State Park Marina makes launching and moing your boat a [Music] snap Logan Canyon in cash National Forest leads down past Rick Springs a great spot to stop stretch and have a cool drink from an underground stream bubbling out of the mountain the picturesque city of Logan at the mouth of Logan Canyon overlooks Lush Cash Valley Logan home of the Utah State University an excellent School emphasizing Wildlife forestry and agricultural training the Mormon temple in Logan just below USU campus every August the little town of Menan just outside Logan Roars to life as lyen Woods oldtime tractor collections snort and puff to life for the annual Menan Utah freshing [Music] bee water ski a favorite summer sport is excellent at the hyam State boting Park just south of [Music] Logan Brigham City gateway to the largest bird refuge in America approximately 67,000 acres in The Refuge expert and neoy bird watchers can identify up to 200 different species a few miles Southwest Willard Bay boating Park peaceful most of the year until the unlimited hydros come to [Music] town [Music] the Great Salt Lake an inland Dead Sea the remains of prehistoric Lake bonabo one of Utah's greatest attractions you can't sink in this Briny water it's seven times saltier than the ocean and everybody floats like a COR west of the lake lies the Great Salt Lake Desert and America's fastest racetrack the Bonville Salt Flats 12 M of hard glass smooth salt men and machines come here to this blinding white salt for One Good Reason one goal breaking the land speed record like ghost towns this one's merker an old silver and gold town where millions of dollars in or were scraped out of the hills a little farther south down by Utah Lake we crossed the old transcontinental Pony Express route once a Pony Express stop and Stage Coach in Camp Floyd is now a state park commemorating the Hardy man who rode the mail ruins like these at Simpsons stretch out across the desert marking a trail worth following Utah Lake and to the east the city of Provo home of Brigham Young [Music] University Bridal veale Falls a few miles a Provo Canyon boasts the world's steepest cable car ride Alpine Scenic Loop is a drive everyone should take especially in the fall south of Provo Springville and renowned Springville Fine Arts gallery still heading south we're over Uinta National Forest one of Utah's nine national forests Huntington [Music] Canyon a beautiful broad tree covered [Music] area here you start Skyline Drive 100 m along the rooftop of [Music] Utah look down on Peaceful small country towns towns with names like Manti and with landmarks like the buff colored Manti Temple from Skyline Drive you can look down to many great fishing [Music] spots through the Fish Lake National Forest on to Filmore once the capital of Utah in this state park stands Utah's first state house it served only one legislature In [Music] 1855 today in its 2 Century it stands as a Pioneer Museum within its walls an old painting of the only Fort still standing in Utah historic old Cove Fort Co Fort built in 1867 for protection from marauding Indians that never attacked M reminders of Utah's Pioneer heritage high up in Fish Lake National Forest one of Utah's best fishing spots Fish Lake stay in this rustic lodge or rough it it it makes no difference to the [Music] fish here's another place where you'll want to wet aign puffer Lake from High Lakes we'll shift to Utah's famous Red Rock country we'll start with capital [Music] Reef from The Visitors Center the National Monument extends for miles in all [Music] directions Cedar Breaks National Monument more of Utah's Red Rock [Music] country Bryce Canyon one of Utah's three national parks use your imagination these Sandstone erosions can be whatever you want them to be Fant fantastic formations that change color with the hour with every weather condition but you don't have to imagine the Lodge's delicious meals or the charm of Bryce's Rusty [Music] cabin from price it's just a short drive drive to Zion National [Music] Park Indians believe the great white Throne to be the home of the sun god huge Sandstone monoliths rise thousands of feet from a lush Green Valley roughing it there are many well equ equipped [Music] campgrounds or if you prefer the softer life Zion lodging cabins are right in the middle of the park down the road Dixie State Park where black lava rock contrasts with brilliant [Music] Sandstone of special interest in State Park Brigham Young's winter home representative of pioneer architecture is the restored home of Jacob Hamlin famous Indian Scout and Peacemaker [Music] on the Utah Arizona border lies the world's most beautiful man-made lake Lake Powell Glend Canyon Dam backing up a lake nearly 200 M long with over 1,800 Mi of [Music] Shoreline once all but inaccessible Rainbow Bridge is near the of Lake Powell rainbow the world's largest natural [Music] Arch 309 ft high with a span of 227 ft about 1 hour Upstream historic hole in the Rock Pioneers picked and blasted a notch in the sheer Cliff face then lowered their wagons into the Colorado River Valley this country look familiar you've seen it hundreds of times in western movies Monument [Music] Valley from ging's Trading Post the valley is laid out as a perfect setting for your favorite cowboy take nothing but pictures leave nothing but Footprints the ancient Anasazi Indians left these ruins at hovenweep National Monument perhaps on purpose to puzzle modern-day archaeologists no one knows the real reason why they left or where they [Music] went you don't need a tiger counter to find breathtaking sights around Moab the uranium capital of the world Drive deep into the Colorado River Canyon or take a jet powered boat that carries up to 40 people take an hour or take a full day on a thrilling Boat Trip into these vast Canyons about noon on a full day trip you can look up from the boat to Dead Horse point one of Utah's state parks then the boat crosses into Canyonlands National Park from the top of the dead horse Point Overlook you can see hundreds of miles into Canyon lands and the boat hardly looks big enough to carry a party of four let alone 40 each spring the Canyons Echo with a roar of many boats when the annual Green River friendship cruise is underway the cruise goes down the Green River from Green River Utah and up the Colorado River to Moab the Friendship Cruise lasts a leisurely 2 days these high-powered hydros take about 3 hours running the River Marathon over the same course [Music] [Music] Utah noted for its many natural arches and Natural Bridges there's Natural Bridge National Monument or Arch's National Monument where you can enjoy fantastic scenery without even getting out of your [Music] car [Music] the San Rafel swell a million years ago pressure from the center of the earth pushed up a giant Dome centuries of erosion have cut into the land forming weird Moonlight [Music] Landscapes Goblin Valley State Park makes the visitor imagin himself as a space [Music] Explorer [Music] the San Rafel wedge Overlook offers Vistas that few people have ever [Music] see these towering Cliffs run half the length of the state this is the Utah for hunters not just deer but elk bear and even mountain lion the city of Vernal to the north is the capital of Dinosaur Land east of Vernal Dinosaur National Monument it will take more than 20 years before the men work here will complete the job of exposing this ancient evidence the museum area of the visitor center tells the story of the dinosaur as we now know it a fascinating Peak into Earth's prehistoric [Music] era the Fieldhouse of natural history in downtown Vernal here the story of the dinosaur and the area is even more dramatically displayed north of Vernal Ashley National Forest Ashley is in the high uent mountains incidentally the uintas are the only major mountain range in this hemisphere that run east and west hundreds of High Mountain Lakes dock this area offering peace Solitude and great fishing [Music] Flaming Gorge Dam north of Vernal in the Ashley National Forest relatively new affording the visitors
