Adapts the stage play of the same title by Heinrich Boll about the power of a state over the lives of individuals in a time of war. Shows a young man receiving an induction notice and departing for military service. Consists of dialog between the man and his mother, portrayals of his home life, and conversation with his girlfriend. Dialog spoken completely in advanced German.
